Thank you for showing your support for Textile Exchange. This year, the Textile Exchange family is celebrating 10 years of catalyzing positive changes in the sustainable textile industry. We help member organizations make their companies more sustainable every day. Here is just one example of how we’re helping.
“I’m the founder and president of Skunkfunk, which is a popular brand of street wear across the world. It’s our aim to produce fun, funky and affordable clothes, always with an eye on sustainability. We design collections that last through the ever-changing fashion trends. Many of our pieces are interchangeable and even reversible so they last longer and can be used in more than one way.
In 2010, we were making many efforts to be sustainable, but we didn’t have a focus or structure to keep it going long-term. That’s changed thanks to TE’s seminars and trainings. TE worked with our company leaders to help them understand the importance of sustainability. They mentored us on a one-on-one basis and we now have a strategic, long term sustainability strategy.
Specifically, TE has helped us to identify certified sourcing partners, saving us time and money. We’ve developed trust and commitment across our vendors and partners. We transport 95% of our products by sea to reduce our carbon footprint. We use bio plastics for poly-bags and we reusing and recycling all paper and cardboard. We’ve taken full control of which fibers we use and I’m now proud to say that at least 35% of our products contain organic fibers. We are aiming to increase that to 50% by 2015. We would not be where we are today without Textile Exchange’s knowledge, connections and dedication to the industry. We’ll be Textile Exchange members for the long run so we can continue to learn best practices and also share our success with other like-minded companies.” ~ Mikel Feijoo Elzo, Founder and President of Skunkfunk, November 2012
We need to keep embracing companies like Skunkfunk and leaders like Mikel. And we need your help to make this happen. Thank you again for your donation and we look forward to working with you over the next year.
As a reminder, Textile Exchange is a US-based nonprofit and is classified as a 501(c)(3) organization by the Internal Revenue Service, so gifts are tax-deductible. Matching gifts are accepted as well.
