After Event Review - January 26, 2012:

Last week LaRhea Pepper, Managing Director, and Daren Abney, Member Services Manager, gathered with many TE members in the outdoor industry at Outdoor Retailer – Winter Market 2012 in Salt Lake City.  The day before the tradeshow opened, the Outdoor Industry Association hosted the Sustainable Workshop Group, where momentum around building this massive index continued forward.  Jason Kibbey, the new Executive Director of the Sustainable Apparel Coalition, was publically introduced.  The first meeting of the “Traceability Working Group” was held, which is a combined initiative with TE and OIA.  Several working groups specific to various materials (down, recycled, organic cotton, etc)  within the traceability initiative were formed.  For more information contact Ashley Gill. (and get Ashley / Anne to follow-up with Steve R to get list…etc.)

Special thanks again to The North Face, Deer Creek Fabircs, Quick Feat International, and prAna for supporting our travel to OR.  We look forward to updating you on our progress with the new OIA working group before the next OR show this coming summer.

Outdoor Retailer - 2012 Winter Market
Friday, January 20 at 10:00am, LaRhea Pepper, TE Managing Director, will be presenting at OR, in the "Deer Valley Room" at the Marriott Hotel, across from the show.

Organic is More Alive Than Ever
How Organic Fibers Are Key in Sustainable Materials Strategy

The cotton field is getting crowded as more sustainable cotton initiatives join the movement. Come learn from an organic cotton farmer and Textile Exchange leader about the benefits of organic cotton and other fibers, and how they compare with other cotton initiatives like “Better Cotton Initiative”, “Cotton Made in Africa”, “Cleaner Cotton”, and “Fair Trade”. LaRhea will also discuss the OIA and SAC eco-indexes as they relate to the different cotton platforms and how leading companies are addressing what’s becoming a very diversified cotton portfolio. You will also hear our plans for the Textile Exchange 2011 Cotton Report with its expanded scope, covering more sustainable cotton initiatives.

TE Members - If you are exhibiting at OR, please email Daren Abney so we can promote you at the show!

Thank you to The North Face, Deer Creek Fabrics, prAna and Quick Feat International for supporting TE's travel to OR.
