We are textile exchange

Textile Exchange is a global nonprofit that creates leaders in the preferred fiber and materials industry.

What we do:

In short, we build a community that can collectively accomplish what no individual or company can do alone. We develop, manage, and promote a suite of leading industry standards, as well as collect and publish critical industry data and insights that enable brands and retailers to measure, manage, and track their use of preferred fiber and materials.

How we do it:

With a robust membership representing leading brands, retailers, and suppliers, Textile Exchange is positively impacting the climate through accelerating the use of preferred fibers across the global textile industry.

With our new Climate+ strategy, Textile Exchange is the driving force for urgent climate action on textile fiber and materials with a goal of 45% reduced CO2 emissions from textile fiber and material production by 2030. By benchmarking the industry and providing actionable tools for improvement, Textile Exchange is driving a race to the top. Learn more here.

Textile Exchange inspires and equips people to accelerate sustainable practices in the textile value chain. We focus on minimizing the harmful impacts of the global textile industry and maximizing its positive effects.

Textile Exchange engages and catalyzes the textile industry across the supply chain through partnerships and collaborations, building knowledge and capacity to inform and educate. We further leverage our influence to create action, change and collective impact.

Our Goals

  • Embed sustainability into evolving business and supply chain strategies
  • Make it easier for companies to adapt to changing opportunities and requirements in textile sustainability
  • Ensure that actions taken toward sustainability result in real and meaningful change

We envision a global textile industry that protects and restores the environment and enhances lives.

Founded as Organic Exchange in 2002, Textile Exchange is a global non-profit organization that works closely with all sectors of the textile supply network. Textile Exchange identifies and shares best practices regarding farming, materials, processing, traceability, and product end-of-life in order to create positive impacts on water, soil, air, animals, and the human population created around the world by the textile industry. Members include 210 companies and organizations from more than 25 countries.

Textile Exchange provides the knowledge and tools the industry needs to make significant improvements in three core areas: Fiber and Materials, Integrity and Standards, and Supply Network. We have developed several important industry standards, including the Organic Content Standard, the Responsible Down Standard, the Responsible Wool Standard, the Recycled Claim Standard, and the Global Recycled Standard.

Textile Exchange expanded from a focus solely on organic cotton in 2010 to include other sustainable fibers such as lyocell and recycled polyester to promote a portfolio approach for brands and retailers to adopt at a strategic level. While the organization name changed to reflect the expanded remit, Textile Exchange continues to have a strong focus on expanding the use of organic fibers as a market-driven solution to address poverty, bio-diversity and food-security.
