SUMMARY:Sympoeisis: making with Opening Reception
DESCRIPTION:Southern California Fibershed announces the opening of its first gallery show Sympoiesis: making with\, in partnership with Studio 203. Opening February 25 and running through April 8\, 2023\, the exhibition explores how one of humanity’s oldest craft and industrial forms––the making of clothing––has shaped our relationship to the land\, our bodies\, and each other. \nThe title calls up author and scholar Donna Haraway’s neologism sympoeisis\, or making with\, the idea that we are creatures of the earth in a dance of co-creation. Director of the So Cal Fibershed and instigating curator Lesley Roberts explains\, “Sympoeisis is a hybrid art show–social practice that follows the threads linking our agricultural and economic ecosystems\, and our wellbeing\, with what we wear.” \n  \nOpening Reception: Saturdaym February 25\, 2:00 – 5:00 P.M. PST \nLocation: STUDIO 203\, 3440 Motor Avenue\, Los Angeles\, 90034

SUMMARY:Towards Clarity and Consensus: How Apparel Brands Can Measure Their Biodiversity Impacts for a Nature-Positive Future Webinar
DESCRIPTION:The WEF has identified biodiversity loss and ecosystem collapse as one of the fastest deteriorating global risks over the next decade. With close ties to biodiversity loss throughout their value chains\, many apparel brands are seeking to measure\, monitor\, and reduce their impacts on nature. \nSeveral approaches to measuring corporate biodiversity performance have emerged\, forming a complex landscape for businesses to navigate. Before they can act to transform supply chains and the ecosystems they touch\, brands must understand how to measure their impacts. \nThis webinar will discuss:\n• The tools and frameworks available for measurement\, including mapping tools and natural capital accounting\n• What is the outlook for alignment on biodiversity measurement and valuation for businesses?\n• How brands can use the TNFD Framework to report and verify their biodiversity impacts\n• Best practice from brands building nature-positive strategies today \nTextile Exchange’s Liesl Truscott will be on the panel.

SUMMARY:UN Biodiversity Conference COP15
DESCRIPTION:Despite ongoing efforts\, biodiversity is deteriorating worldwide and this decline is projected to worsen with business-as-usual scenarios. The UN Biodiversity Conference will convene governments from around the world to agree to a new set of goals for nature over the next decade through the Convention on Biological Diversity post-2020 framework process. The framework sets out an ambitious plan to implement broad-based action to bring about a transformation in society’s relationship with biodiversity and to ensure that\, by 2050\, the shared vision of living in harmony with nature is fulfilled. \nThe Conference will also look at the implementation of the protocols of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) that deal with the fair and equitable sharing of benefits from the use of nature\, and the safe transport\, handling and labeling of Living Modified Organisms. \nThe first part of COP-15 included the opening of the Meetings and addressed agenda items that were identified as essential for the continuation of the operations of the Convention and the Protocols by the Bureau. This included meetings about administrative matters and technical issues related to CBD programmes. \nThere was also a high-level segment on 12 and 13 October 2021. Participants focused on the development of the post-2020 global biodiversity framework. \nThe conference will take place in Montreal\, Canada. All sessions at COP-15 will be streamed live at cbd.int/live and the main schedule is also available.

SUMMARY:Circular By Design: How Apparel Brands Can Make Informed Choices
DESCRIPTION:All materials have impacts. Whether it be fossil fuel inputs\, land and chemical use\, or human rights issues\, brands are keen to show verifiable\, data-driven improvements in their sourcing choices. There are emerging solutions\, and materials with lower impact coming on the market at scale today. Presently\, we need a more honest conversation about the factors driving brand choices\, and the circular solutions that exist in the global market place. \nIn this discussion\, we’ll consider the following points: \n• Why choice and design matter so much\, in terms of choosing the right materials to lower brand and supply chain impact fastest.\n• How brands can make the right impact-driven choices to separate true circular from recycling.\n• How sourcing companies can communicate with apparel designers around the true impact of material choices.\n• Can communicating a full production narrative showing real\, verifiable impact enable greener customer choices? \nHear from our panel: \n• Lucita Jasmin\, director of sustainability and external affairs\, APRIL\n• Sarah Hayes\, sustainability business expert circularity\, H&M\n• Megan Stoneburner\, director of materials\, Textile Exchange \nThe discussion will be moderated by Toby Webb\, founder of Innovation Forum. \n2pm BST / 3pm CET
