On May 1-10, 2017, Textile Exchange teamed-up with OrganiMark for TExcursion: Connect With Africa. We were joined by several industry leaders, including Target, Kering, Timberland, Anthesis, Change Agency and a film crew for an eye-opening, hands-on learning experience throughout South Africa’s sustainable land-based materials industry. OrganiMark, based in Pretoria, South Africa, brought our group to University of Pretoria, Loskop Cotton Farm and Gin in Marble Hall, the Prilla Cotton Spinning Mill in Pietermaritzburg, and the BKB Wool and Mohair Auction House in Port Elizabeth. We also visited Colibri towel factory in Somerset West and a leather tannery outside of Cape Town. Of course the trip would not be complete without experiencing the beauty of South Africa with a safari tour at Kruger National Park, a stop at an ostrich farm, and a tour through the Congo Caves.
This was OrganiMark’s inaugural Connect With Africa tour and based on the overwhelming success and interest from all attendees, you can be sure to keep your eyes open for part two coming in the new year.
Stay tuned for a recap video from our adventure!
