Why Work Here?
Awesome job and great co-workers! Great remote opportunity for the right candidate.
As the Assurance Lead, you are responsible for overseeing the audit and assessment methodology for the U.S. Cotton Trust Protocol, from the field level to the end use of cotton across the global supply chain. The position can be remotely based in the U.S. and will report directly to the Executive Director, with heavy interaction with the leads for Standards and Data, Traceability, and Field Programs.
The U.S. Cotton Trust Protocol is a unique program for sustainably grown cotton, aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The Protocol brings quantifiable goals and measurement in six key areas, namely: land use, soil carbon, water management, soil loss, greenhouse gas emissions, and energy efficiency. Using sophisticated data collection and independent third-party verification, the protocol will give brands and retailers the assurance they and their customers need that they are sourcing responsibly.
As the Assurance Lead you will play a crucial role in ensuring that the organization’s sustainability reporting and practices are in compliance with established standards and are accurately represented to stakeholders, including growers, board, investors, members, regulators, and the public. This role is critical in ensuring transparency, accountability, and credibility in the U.S. Cotton Trust Protocol’s sustainability efforts. Your goal is to create systems that help build trust with stakeholders and work with teams to ensure that sustainability reporting accurately reflects the organization’s environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance in line with established standards.
Job duties include but are not limited to the following:
*Sustainability Assurance Framework: Develop and maintain a robust sustainability assurance framework aligned with industry standards, program objectives, and regulatory requirements.
*Compliance: Ensuring that the organization’s sustainability practices align with the requirements and guidelines set forth by the chosen sustainability standard or framework. This may involve regular assessments and audits of practices and information across the cotton supply chain, from cotton growers to Retailers and Brands. Stay informed about environmental regulations and standards, ensuring that USCTP data practices align with compliance requirements.
*Risk Assessment: Identifying potential risks and issues related to sustainability reporting and ensuring they are appropriately managed and disclosed. This includes assessing the impact of sustainability practices on the organization’s financial and reputational risks and working with teams to mitigate the risks.
*Stakeholder Engagement: Working with the Comms team to communicate with various stakeholders, including internal and external parties like brands, retailers, and industry associations, to gather feedback, address concerns, and ensure transparency in sustainability reporting.
* Audit and Verification: Conducting independent audits and verification of sustainability data and reports to assure stakeholders that the information is accurate and reliable. This process will include coordination with third-party auditors and will also involve on-site visits from the cotton field to the supply chain, data sampling, and direct engagement in thorough assessments.
*Reporting: Preparing assurance reports that document findings, conclusions, and recommendations related to the organization’s sustainability practices and reporting. These reports are often made available to stakeholders and may be required for regulatory compliance.
