Join our global community
Textile Exchange membership connects you to a powerful community of brands, suppliers, and companies working together to transform how we produce, choose, and reuse materials. Together we’re driving change that delivers real benefits for climate, nature, people, and animals.
HOW IT WORKS
A redefined membership to unlock the next stage of collective action for climate and nature
Through structured pathways, targeted guidance, and practical tools, our redefined membership gives you the clarity and alignment you need to move forward toward the purposeful production of materials, wherever you are on your sustainability journey.
Our updated membership structure offers organizations the chance to join one of two unique but connected cohorts: Action or Community. Both are built to support you, whether you’re directly producing or procuring raw materials, or simply want to prioritize deepening your knowledge of best practices.
Existing members will have time and support to move into the new structure. Our team will be there every step of the way to help ensure you’re on the path that best suits your organizational needs while contributing to meaningful industry-wide change.
The Community Cohort
The Community Cohort is tailored to organizations whose work sits outside of direct raw material sourcing or production, who are looking to grow their sustainability expertise, and seeking to share the journey with peers across the industry. It is suited to academics, non-profits, solution providers and consultancies, as well as supply chain partners in Tiers 1–3 who do not produce or source materials themselves.
As part of the Community Cohort, you’ll gain access to a global network of like-minded professionals, knowledge-sharing opportunities, learning, and expert-developed tools. The Community Cohort emphasizes a self-guided approach, offering a concrete foundation for those looking to build credibility and expand their network.
The Action Cohort
The Action Cohort is purpose-built for brands, retailers, suppliers, and Tier 4 material producers that are directly involved in sourcing or producing materials. It is structured to help its members achieve concrete, measurable progress backed by verified outcomes for climate, nature, people, and animals.
Joining this cohort provides members with clearly structured action pathways, a standardized progress reporting framework, and the opportunity to join collective action initiatives and workshops. Action Cohort members must commit to tangible steps, from reporting their progress to sourcing or producing through systems that verify best practices, turning intention into implementation.
There will also be the opportunity to lead the change, with brands and producers working together through collective action to overcome production system barriers and accelerate progress.

How can I become part of the Textile Exchange community?
Please reach out to membership@textileexchange.org if you are interested in joining.
Why is Textile Exchange changing its membership structure?
For more than two decades, we have guided our growing community toward more purposefully produced materials. Our current membership structure has helped our community expand knowledge, build connections, and make real progress toward our shared vision.
However, our 2025 Materials Market Report shows that the industry is not advancing fast enough to meet climate goals. Members are facing growing geopolitical and economic uncertainty and the urgency for our industry to address its climate and nature impact is intensifying. At the same time, the industry continues to struggle with alignment and clarity on how to reach our goals in the time we have. To meet the needs of our members and accelerate progress for climate and nature, we are evolving our membership structure to take a stronger, action-oriented approach.
Our aim is to activate our community and unlock the next stage of the transition to preferred production systems.
The new membership structure introduces clear pathways, guidance, and tools to help participating organizations take coordinated, collective action for climate, nature, and animals.
What is the timeline?
In early 2026, Textile Exchange will be releasing further details about the changes to the membership structure. In the meantime, existing members can visit The Hub for more information.
Textile Exchange will provide ample support and guidance to ensure a smooth and phased transition into the appropriate cohort. We will be reaching out to our members to support this transition.
Do organizations need to be a member to use Textile Exchange standards?
No. Membership is not required for and does not authorize the use of Textile Exchange’s standards. Certification to standards can only be achieved through an approved certification body.
